Kentucky State Police responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 70 in Rockcastle County. The collision resulted in one fatality. The preliminary investigation indicates a pickup driven by 59-year-old Charles Northern, of Mt. Vernon, was traveling westbound when he lost control and veered into the path of an SUV driven 56-year-old by Sandra Whitaker of Mt. Vernon. Whitaker suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Rockcastle County Coroner at the scene. Northern was flown out to Chandler Hospital in Lexington and treated for non-life-threating injuries. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Trooper Austin Cornett.
