UPDATE: Kentucky State Police have released the names of those involved in a Whitley County crash that claimed the lives of an adult and a child. The crash happened on Bee Creek Road Tuesday morning. Troopers say a GMC Acadia, driven by 33-year-old Stephanie Smith, was going south when it crossed the center line and hit a Lexus driven by 67-year-old Diana Alsip. The Whitley County Sheriff’s Office said they believe the icy road led to the crash. Smith was treated and released. A juvenile passenger in the GMC, 10-year-old Drake Southerland, had severe injuries and was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center. He was later flown to University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital but had to divert to St. Joseph London Hospital because of his condition. The Laurel County Coroner’s Office later pronounced Southerland dead. Alsip was flown to the University of Tennessee Hospital with severe injuries and was later pronounced dead by the Knox County Coroner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing.
