The Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) recently named two organizations the Champions of Appalachia awards for their service to the people of Appalachia. CAP is celebrating 60 years of service to Appalachia through numerous philanthropic efforts such as hunger and poverty relief, child and family development, and disaster relief. While CAP plays a valuable role in these efforts, Chairman and CEO Guy Adams said it takes organizations like Community Trust Bank and God’s Pantry Food Bank to make these efforts possible. Community Trust Bank was founded in Pikeville and played a vital role in disaster relief efforts after the July 2022 floods. God’s Pantry Food Bank serves more than 20 million meals annually to families in need throughout Appalachia. They also sponsor more than 500 food pantries throughout the region in the hopes of ensuring that families no longer go without food. During the ceremony, officials announced the completion of the RISE and SHINE project, which will focus on children and families in Appalachia.
