In the halls of Northern Middle School, Somerset officials participated in a full-scale active shooter simulation. Pulaski County Sheriff Bobby Jones said he wants officers to know the tactics needed to prevent any loss of life in the event of an actual situation. After the Sandy Hook tragedy, there was a shift in how to respond to active attack situations. Jones said they are teaching their departments the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training, also known as the ALERRT. With over seven organizations joining the training including EMS, Fire, and even air ambulances, ALERRT supplied them with over 27,000 dollars worth of replica guns and protective gear so they could have a full-scale simulation. The ALERRT training wraps up on Wednesday.
