Laurel County Sheriff John Root says Detective Taylor McDaniel and Detective Hunter Disney arrested a London man on child abuse charges. Police took 43-year-old Malvin Merced into custody, following an investigation into a complaint that he reportedly hit a 17-year-old girl in the face. Police said the arrest happened on Riviera Lane. He was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center. Assisting on the investigation were: Laurel Sheriff’s K-9/Sgt. Gary Mehler, Laurel County SRO Deputy Charlie Johnson, Laurel County school police chief Dan Smoot and Social Services.
