Laurel County Sheriff John Root says Deputy Zach Allen was called out to Old Whitley Road where a vehicle had reportedly crashed into a utility pole. Deputy Allen arrived to find the driver, 36-year-old John Spears, of London, had crashed. Police say spears had a strong odor of alcoholic beverages and was arrested. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense. Spears was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
