Laurel County Sheriff John Root says they’re investigating a resurfaced phone scam in the area. He said the scammers are specifically targeting elderly folks telling them that their child, grandchild, or other relatives are in some sort of danger that requires money to be sent immediately. In one instance, the caller said they needed $1,500. Sheriff Root says these scammers can often program familiar phone numbers into their calls. He said, as always, never give out personal identifying information or any kind of payment over the phone.
