Laurel County Sheriff John Root says while Deputy Bobby Roberts was patrolling on East Laurel Road, he attempted to pull over a motorcycle that had no plates. The driver, later identified as 56-year-old Todd Burton of Hyden, began speeding away, nearly striking a Clay County Sheriff’s Office car. Police said the motorcycle reached 122 mph before slamming into the deputy’s car. Burton then reportedly fled on foot, but was caught and taken into custody. He was charged with resisting arrest, evading police, wanton endangerment and other charges. Multiple law enforcement agencies from Laurel and Clay County worked together on the arrest. Burton was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
