Laurel County continues to remember the life of former London Police Chief William “Bill” Smith. He served the department for more than 20 years. Current Chief Chuck Johnson said Smith shaped the department into what it is today. Smith also founded and operated Ambulance, Inc. of Laurel County in 1977. Director Jamey Mills said Smith leaves behind a long legacy of hard work and helping emergency services throughout the county. Last year, Smith was honored with an ambulance displaying a design of the former chief with his signature cowboy hat.
