Knox County Police Arrest Man Who Took SUV from Car Dealership and Vandalized Offices

Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith says a North Carolina man is facing several charges after he took an SUV from a car dealership in Corbin and brought it back damaged. Deputies were called out to the dealership and found the front glass door had been shattered with a metal garbage can lid and an ash tray. Several offices had been vandalized. Police discovered a 2024 GMC Denali sitting inside a service bay with all of the doors opened with the overhead garage door raised. During the investigation police encountered 44-year-old Courtney Lowery, who picked up a large metal pry bar and started toward them in a threatening manner. When Lt. Sam Mullins pulled out his service weapon, Lowery threw the bar down and ran out the back door. Police found Lowery a short time later in a vacant field near the dealership. Lowery had taken the SUV from the dealership and had been driving it in the area before bringing it back with damage. Lowery was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking, fleeing or evading police, terroristic threatening and public intoxication/controlled substance. Lowery was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
