As we head into the winter months, Kentucky state officials say they have already laid out plans to do their best to keep the roads clear. A Budget Review Subcommittee on Transportation Meeting was held in Frankfort on Wednesday to discuss last year’s winter weather expenditures and what is expected for the upcoming season. Allen Blair, deputy director of public affairs for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, said they have salt stockpiled and all of the materials on hand for whenever the winter weather hits. For the 2023-2024 fiscal snow season, the state spent more than $47 million on state and contract equipment, materials and labor. However, officials are preparing for increased costs with a projected change in our global weather pattern. James Ballinger, state highway engineer, said they’re confident that with 2,300 workers, Kentucky will be able to weather the storms.
