Gov. Andy Beshear signed a proclamation this week that designates October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Advocates for survivors of domestic violence say the proclamation is an example of what they say is a needed shift from survivor silence to survivor support. A recent National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence survey found that in Kentucky, more than four in 10 women and nearly three in 10 men, have experienced intimate partner violence in their lifetime. There are resources available for anyone who is experiencing intimate partner violence. The national domestic violence hotline is 1-800-799-SAFE.
