Laurel County Sheriff John Root says following a theft investigation, 29-year-old Joshua Velasco, a former employee of the sheriff’s office and his wife, 27-year-old Bethany Camille Velasco, was indicted by a Laurel County Grand Jury. Josh Velasco was charged with multiple counts of complicity to commit theft by deception. Bethany Velasco was charged with multiple counts of theft by deception. Sheriff Root said after they became aware of the allegations, a criminal investigation was initiated, and as a result Josh Velasco was terminated from the sheriff’s office. Both appeared in Laurel Circuit Court on November 17th and were released pending posting a bond of $2500 each . Their next court date is scheduled for November 27th in Laurel Circuit Court.
