Former Corbin Pharmacist Sentenced to 20 Months in Prison

Officials say former pharmacist, 57-year-old Stephanie Collins, of Corbin, was sentenced to 20 months in prison for her role in a fraudulent scheme. Collins allegedly had a role in a scheme to defraud Medicare and Medicaid by billing for medications she never gave customers. Collins operated Stephanie’s Down Home Pharmacy in Corbin. Officials said Collins used the pharmacy’s computer system to submit claims for payments of drugs that customers did not pick up. They also said she submitted fraudulent claims for diabetic test strips. Kentucky Medicaid and Medicare had to reimburse Collins’ pharmacy with more than $730,000 as a result of the fraudulent claims. Collins has to serve at least 85 percent of her prison sentence. Once released, she will be under supervision for two years by officials with the U.S. probation office. She was also ordered to pay back the more than $730,000.
