Spring forest fire season is underway through April 30. State officials say it is illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of a woodland or brushland area during fire season. Officials say fires are more likely to spark toward the end of February, but several departments have already received calls about fires. Officials say the cold temperatures at night, especially with frost, pulls moisture out of the vegetation. Then, in the day, the sunlight and warmer temperatures and low humidity make for a recipe for fire. Authorities advise to never leave a fire unattended.
