A Corbin landmark, The Engineer Bridge, has been refurbished. When it was first built, it was used as the primary path to main street. People and cars crossed the bridge on a daily basis. In recent years, the bridge was transitioned into a walkway that was popularly used for exercise and photos, but the bridge started to show its age. Wood flooring started to rot and became dangerous for public use. That’s when Jeff Nantz, Director of Public Works, decided it was time to refurbish the bridge. After a couple of weeks, officials with the public works department finished work to reopen it. Officials said they expect more people use the bridge now that it is safer for public use.
