A Corbin student received the medal of heroism this week. On July 10, 2023, Jacen Post sprang into action to save the life of someone experiencing a heat stroke. He was a freshman of Corbin High School’s JROTC program at the time, and was on a break at Camp Davy Crockett when he heard people calling for help across the lake. Post swam 100 yards to Wolf Campsite where he found a kid experiencing a heat stroke. Post said he put on his calm face and did what he was trained to do. Senior army instructor at Corbin high school for the JROTC program, Colonel Mike Farley, said he learned the next day Post’s actions saved the kid’s life. Post was honored with the medal of heroism, a national award that Farley said on average three kid’s nationwide receive a year. Farley said in his 12 years working at Corbin High School, Post is the first person to receive an honor of this level.
