Clay County Sheriff Patrick Robinson says deputies were called out to a grocery store on Highway 80 where a person was reportedly assaulted. Police arrived to find the victim, who was being treated for an open wound on his head. According to the arrest citation, the victim told deputies that two men had assaulted him, threw pieces of asphalt at his head and jumped him while he was on the road. After reviewing surveillance footage, Billy Buttery was seen trying to attack the victim and throwing pieces of broken up asphalt at the victim’s head, then chasing him on the roadway, continuing to attack him. Police later found Buttery walking on Paces Creek Road, where he admitted that he got into an altercation with the reported victim. Buttery was charged with assault – second degree. He was lodged in the Clay County Detention Center.
