Laurel County Sheriff John Root says East Bernstadt School staff found a replica, non-operational, firearm in a student’s backpack as the student attempted to enter the school through the metal detector. The student was taken into custody by Laurel County’s Sheriff’s School Resource Officer assigned to the school. Laurel County SO SRO and Detectives are continuing an investigation into the incident. Preliminary results indicate no students were ever at risk. The student has been charged.
