Laurel County Sheriff John Root reports Deputy Bobby Roberts and Deputy Cyruss McVey were called out to a two-vehicle crash on I – 75 approximately 8 miles South of London. Deputies found that a vehicle had ran out of fuel and that a man had attempted to exit the vehicle to push it off the road. Apparently, as he exited the vehicle a car driven by 49-year-old Johnathon Brantley of Florida struck the vehicle in the rear. Brantley admitted to police that he was on his phone and when he looked up he hit the car. The vehicle that was struck was occupied by a woman that was six months pregnant who was injured and had to be airlifted from the scene. Brantley was arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle using a handheld mobile device, two counts of wanton endangerment and assault. He was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
