Intoxicated Corbin Man Arrested After Acting Suspiciously At Store

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called out to a business off 25E where employees reported a suspicious man. The employees told dispatchers the man had made statements that made them fear a robbery may occurr. When officers arrived they found the man, later identified as 43 year old David R. Goodin of Corbin, standing outside the business. Police determined Goodin was under the influence and took him into custody. Deputies also found drugs on him. Goodin was charged with public intoxication – controlled substances and possession of a controlled substance. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Corbin Man Arrested For Domestic Violence

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called out to a home off Highway 1223 on a domestic violence complaint. Officers found that allegedly 39 year old William Edward Romaker had shoved a female victim to the ground and left the scene. Deputies later found Romaker on Cherry Avenue near Corbin. Romaker was arrested and charged with assault – domestic violence and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Laurel County Police Arrest Fugitive Wanted In Florida

Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting the arrest of a fugitive wanted out of Florida. Deputies developed information on the location od 25 year old Shawn Taylor. He was found on Swaford Drive. Taylor was wanted by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office in Florida for burglary. He was taken into custody and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. Florida authorities will extradite Taylor back to Florida.

Man Arrested On Drug And Disorderly Conduct Charges In Laurel County

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called out on a complaint at a home off Pine Grove Road. When officers arrived they found several men inside a residence that were not supposed to be there. During the investigation 28 year old Joshua Barrett was found in possession of drug paraphernalia. While he was being arrested deputies say he became beligerent. Barrett was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Names Of Pair Found Dead In Jackson County After Car Fire Identified

The names of two people found dead after a car fire have been released. The Jackson County Deputy Coroner identified them as 28 year old Whitney Venable and 35 year old Joey Marcum. Both are from the Sand Gap community of Jackson County. Their bodies were found on December 28 on Rock Lick Creek Road in a remote area of Jackson County. The deputy coroner says a cause of death has not been determined for either of them. He says it could be a while before investigators figure out how they died. State Police were called to the scene last week to investigate. They have not said if foul play is involved in the deaths. Friends and family say all they can do is wait while State Police to complete the investigation.

New Immunizations Required For Kentucky Students

School officials around the state are encouraging parents to begin preparing for new immunization requirements for school children. The law takes effect with the 2018-19 school year and requires all students to receive a Hepatitis A vaccine and students 16 and older to get a meningitis booster. Officials told media that it's imperative to start preparing now because the Hepatitis A vaccine is given in two doses that are six months apart. Officials say students are required to at least have the first shot to enroll. Kentucky's new immunization guidelines were adopted before the Hepatitis A outbreak began sweeping the country. About 30 cases have been reported in Kentucky.

Man Arrested On Several Charges After Laurel County Crash

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrested a man following a crash. Deputies say 45 year old Dewayne Doolin of Corbin, was driving along Ralley Road southwest of London when he crashed his SUV and ran from the scene. Karen Cottrell was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash. She was seriously injured and flown to UK Hospital. When deputies arrived at the scene, they say they found a bag of marijuana in the roadway by the driver’s door. Deputies found Doolin in a nearby home. They say he told them he was driving the car when it crashed and that the marijuana was his and must have fallen out of the car when he ran off. Doolin also told the deputies he had smoked marijuana before driving the car. Doolin was arrested and charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of marijuana, failure to render aid, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and other charges from a bench warrant. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Pulaski County Police Looking For Credit Card Thief

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office say deputies are searching for a man using a stolen credit card. The credit card was stolen from a vehicle at the Waitsboro Recreation Area. Officials have released a surveillance photo of the man who they say used the stolen credit card at Midtown Shell in Somerset. Laurel County Sheriff's Office Announces New Senior Safety Program

The Laurel County Sheriff's office announced a new program that will assist the well-being of seniors or handicapped people. The program is called Operation C.O.A.S.T., which stands for "Check on a Senior Today". The idea is for Sheriff's office staff to check on senior citizens in the community who live by themselves or whose family is away. Seniors who sign up for the program will be called daily to make sure they are okay and help them find assistance if they need medicine, groceries or repairs. If no one answers the phone, deputies will go to the listed address and make sure everything is alright. Sheriff John Root says he will personally call folks and hopefully get to know them on a first-name basis. Deputies plan to stop in from time to time to just say hello. Knox County Police Make Arrest In Robbery Of Pizza Delivery Guy

The Knox County Sheriff's Office say an arrest has been made in the robbery of a Snappy Tomato Pizza delivery guy at an apartment complex in Corbin. The victim told police that a man wearing a scarf around his face pulled a knife on the victim and demanded money. The robber got away with about $30.00. Sheriff Mike Smith was later contacted by someone who said they had information about the robbery. Smith met with 21 year old Joshua Wombles, who admitted that he had robbed the pizza delivery guy. Wombles was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, along with charges from Whitley County. He was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
