Woman Accused Of Setting Fire To Her Husband Appears In Court

The woman accused of setting her husband on fire went before a judge this week. Vera Rosanne Wooten pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree assault during her arraignment in Laurel District Court. Wooten is accused of setting her husband, John, on fire. Police say she caught her husband in a car with another woman and then poured gasoline on him before setting him on fire. According to police, John Wooten suffered burns to over fifty percent of his body from his knees to his head. At last report he was in critical condition at a specialized burn unit hospital in Cincinnati. Vera Wooten didn't say much in court, and the judge entered the not guilty plea on her behalf. The judge also set Wooten's bond for $100,000 cash. If she gets out, she is not allowed to have any contact with the victim. Wooten will be back in court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
