Memorial Held For KSP Officer Killed In The 60's

As part of National Police Week, officers from across the country who lost their lives in the line of duty are being remembered. Wednesday in Clay County, officers placed a wreath on the grave of Kentucky State Police trooper Elmer Mobley Jr. The 33 year old Mobley was fatally injured in a car crash May 28, 1964 while responding to a call for assistance in Pike County. Trooper Cecil Uzzle, who was with Trooper Mobley, was also killed in the accident. Their cruiser struck large rocks that had fallen in the roadway. The rocks were hidden by heavy rain and dense fog at the time of the crash. Trooper Mobley was assigned to Post 9 Pikeville and had served with the Kentucky State Police for four and a half years. Trooper Mobley is buried at Oneida Settlement School in Clay County.
