Investigation ongoing into fire that killed 7

According to the Corbin News Journal officials at Kentucky State Police Post 10 in Harlan say the investigation into the fire in Gray that killed seven people is active and ongoing but that a definite answer may be months or even years away, if ever. Trooper Shane Jacobs, public affairs officer at the post, emphasized that there is no reason to suspect arson. Calling in the arson investigators is standard procedure when there is a fatal fire. Separate investigations by the Kentucky State Fire Marshal’s office and the insurance company are ongoing. West Knox Fire Chief Daryl Baker, whose department was initially paged to the scene on March 9, said he has been in regular contact with officials from the fire marshal’s office concerning their investigation. Baker said previously that the fire began in the front room.
